Canadian snowfalls tend to cover up summer remnants as much as they act as the herald of winterized life - ice fishing upon the Kennebecasis or sledding down grandma's hill. Once the snow melts into spring freshets, the quaint discard returns - the timber heaps behind one's garage or a return to the family's cottage where memories are kept secluded from daily life. It is an unspoken transition only really experienced in northern climates, perhaps not Canada specifically, but nonetheless New Brunswick-ish. Yet as rivers rise, as snows melts faster, and rural communities struggle, one can't help but wonder if this flux can maintain the same nostalgia.
Forlorn is a series of printed works detailing the forgotten, abandoned, and questionable areas of New Brunswick. Forlorn has been funded by ArtsNB and the Canada Council for the Arts Research and Creation grants.
